Melbourne pianist Rose Riebl will pull from her post-classical debut album Do Not Move Stones, backed by a cello trio. Her compositions are often cinematic and transcendent, hinting at the great romantic composers such as Rachmaninov, Tchaikovsky and Chopin, but with a contemporary, minimalist slant. No faint praise came from The Monthly: “The melodies feel elemental, like water pulled from deep beneath stones and earth: it’s a distillation of decades of engagement with music, literature and art. When I listen to this music, I feel like something has been understood, and I am changed.” Since making her debut as a concert pianist at the Melbourne Recital Centre, Riebl has performed her own work in concert halls throughout Asia, Europe and Australia.
