Are they false idols or merely leading a communion? This provocative electronic group from Perth is fronted by Molly Priest, who often strips down to her torso, tattooed with a thick black cross and bearing top surgery scars. Alter Boy have a shared love of avant-garde theatre and costume, but they have far greater depths than just the visual spectacle. Many of their songs dissect religion, as well as their experiences of queer community and gender fluidity (the alternate spelling of ‘alter’ is deliberate). There’s also an emphasis on accessibility and inclusion, with the band providing an Auslan Interpreter on stage at all performances.
